Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington, was recently ordered to pay a West Richland couple more than $257,000 in a medical malpractice lawsuit that centered around a piece of plastic tubing that was left inside their premature baby, the News Tribune reports. Virginia Beach Boy Awarded $2.3 Million for Birth Injury

A jury recently awarded $2.3 million in damages to a 4-year-old Virginia Beach, Virginia boy who suffered arm injuries when he was born, the Virginian-Pilot reports. Nicknamed the "mechanical mom," the Mobile Obstetric Emergencies Simulator (MOES) is a training mannequin that could help the Department of Defense to improve delivery practices. Three Bay Area Hospitals Fined For Patient Care Errors

Three hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area are facing fines that range from $25,000 to $75,000 for medical errors, the Bay Citizen reports.  The hospitals are being fined by the California Department of Public Health. A $30,000 doll that simulates a newborn baby has become a lifelike neonatal training tool that will help St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota, avoid medical errors during delivery, the Mankato Free Press reports. An Air Force captain and his wife are suing the military branch, claiming errors were made by doctors and nurses that led to the death of their 6-month-old son, the Air Force Times reports.
